The film opens in a nightmarish future. For decades, advanced Sentinels—adaptable, indestructible robots designed to hunt mutants—have decimated both mutant-kind and any humans who harbor them. A rag-tag band of surviving X-Men, including an aged Professor X (Patrick Stewart), a bitter Magneto (Ian McKellen), and a battle-hardened Kitty Pryde (Ellen Page), live in hiding.
