The plot kicks into high gear when he is invited back to the Congo to investigate rumors of a hidden diamond reserve. Unbeknownst to him, this is a trap set by the vengeful Captain Léon Rom (Christoph Waltz), a Belgian envoy working for King Leopold II. Rom plans to capture Tarzan and hand him over to a ruthless tribal chief in exchange for diamonds. The film then becomes a thrilling rescue mission as Tarzan returns to the wild, reclaims his primal instincts, and battles mercenaries, soldiers, and the wild animals of the jungle.
