Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa is a rare beast: a sequel that arguably surpasses its predecessor. Picking up immediately where the first film left off, the central quartet—Alex the Lion (Ben Stiller), Marty the Zebra (Chris Rock), Melman the Giraffe (David Schwimmer), and Gloria the Hippo (Jada Pinkett Smith)—attempt to fly back to New York’s Central Park Zoo in a ramshackle plane repaired by the psychotic penguins.
