Historically, the Gran Turismo series has been a PlayStation exclusive since 1997.

While there is no official news regarding a release on PC, series creator Kazunori Yamauchi has confirmed that development for the next installment is underway. Historically, the franchise has remained a flagship PlayStation exclusive to drive console sales, and recent reports suggest Sony may be scaling back its efforts to port major exclusives to PC. Current Status and PC Outlook

Gran Turismo’s online Sport Mode is its killer app. A PC version opens the floodgates to memory editors, grip hacks, and automatic shifting scripts. Polyphony has zero experience with PC anti-cheat. They would need to integrate something like Easy Anti-Cheat or Vanguard, which adds overhead and frustrates legitimate modders.

By keeping GT8 console-exclusive, Sony leaves $1+ billion on the table. Shareholders will not allow that forever.

Before discussing GT8, we must acknowledge the awkward elephant in the room: Gran Turismo 7 . Launched in 2022 for PS4 and PS5, GT7 was a divisive entry. While its driving physics and "Living Museum" car collection were praised, its always-online requirement and controversial microtransaction economy (the infamous "MTX") drew heavy criticism from the core sim racing community.

: While a PC port for Gran Turismo 7 was previously rumored and appeared in technical leaks, reports indicate these plans may have been shelved or cancelled.
