Using content analysis of 18 months of update logs, we identify patterns in numerical rebalancing, QoL additions, and paid vs. free progression buffs. Findings suggest that idle games use patch notes not only for bug fixes but as a behavioral steering mechanism to retain players past typical retention cliffs.
